3. General information on data processing
We generally only collect and use our users' personal data to the extent necessary to provide a functional website, as well as our content and services, and where a legal basis permits us to do so.
Legal basis for the processing of personal data
If we obtain the data subject's consent to process personal data, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR serves as the legal basis for the processing of personal data.
If the processing of personal data is necessary to fulfill a legal obligation to which Dortmund University of Applied Sciences is subject, Art. 6 (1) (c) GDPR serves as the legal basis.
If the vital interests of the data subject or another natural person require the processing of personal data, Art. 6 (1) (d) GDPR serves as the legal basis.
If processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, Art. 6 (1) (e) GDPR serves as the legal basis for processing. If processing is necessary to protect a legitimate interest of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences or a third party, and the interests, fundamental rights, and freedoms of the data subject do not override the former interest, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR serves as the legal basis for processing. This does not apply if Dortmund University of Applied Sciences is acting in an official capacity during the corresponding processing.
Duration of storage of personal data
We will only store the personal data of the data subject for as long as the purpose for which it was stored exists. If the processing is based on the data subject's consent, the data will only be stored until the data subject withdraws their consent, unless there is another legal basis for processing.
Right to rectification and erasure of personal data
The data subject has the right to request that we immediately rectify any inaccurate personal data concerning them. The data subject also has the right to request that we immediately delete personal data concerning him or her as soon as the purpose for which it was stored no longer applies, or, if the processing is based on the data subject's consent, if the data subject withdraws his or her consent and no other legal basis for the processing exists.
The data subject's personal data will continue to be deleted if he or she objects to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 (1) GDPR and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for the processing, if the personal data were processed unlawfully, or if the deletion was provided for in regulations to which Dortmund University of Applied Sciences is subject to comply with a legal obligation imposed by European or national lawmakers.
However, deletion will not occur in the cases described above if the processing of personal data is necessary for Dortmund University of Applied Sciences to fulfill a legal obligation imposed on it by European or national legislators, or if the processing is carried out to perform a task carried out by Dortmund University of Applied Sciences in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, or if the continued storage of personal data is necessary to assert, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Right of revocation
If the processing of personal data is based on the consent of the data subject, they may revoke their consent at any time. The processing of personal data carried out up to the time of revocation remains lawful despite the revocation.
Right to information
The data subject has the right to request confirmation from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences as to whether personal data concerning them is being processed. If this is the case, the data subject has the right to object to the processing of personal data.
